Numbers and authenticity

We, the so called educated, are, somehow, hardwired to believe numbers. Once we see the numbers we are already biased to believe the assertion. But numbers can be deceptive because of our ignorance towards the authenticity of the source where these numbers come from. They might be a fabrication of somebody’s mind. And especially in this time of social media, it is not very difficult to make people believe anything you want by throwing out a bunch of numbers and some out of context quotes that support your assertion/s. You don’t even need to care for the spread of the message. There are plenty of people you can find who support your “cause”. This happens because we, the common people, directly get the readymade conclusions on our screens and also we don’t have enough time and resources to verify the authenticity. We have two choices: either believe it or ignore it and if "the cause" concerns us we mostly tend to believe it.
